SERIES CHART: SPECIFIC ASTROLOGICAL CASE STUDY: ORDER OF THE PHOENIX
by Elizabeth Hazel, Astrologer
Order of the Phoenix provides an astrological foundation for forecasting events in Books 6 and 7. Harry's chart is the primary time-line reference tool; Hermione and Ron's charts were also consulted for events. All three were born during 1980 and share both fast and slow planetary placements. For instance, Harry and Ron both have Saturn at 24 degrees Virgo – when one gets in trouble, the other isn't far behind. Hermione's Mercury is conjunct Harry's Mars in Libra, so she interprets the cause-and-effect of actions to Harry. She thinks and he acts. The entwinement of this trio of charts provides a fuller, richer forecast. Planetary movement that activates a placement unique to one character shows an individual experience the other two do not share.
The basic forecasting method used is transit analysis – a technique where the planetary movements through the zodiac (called transits) during the relevant time period are compared to the static natal charts. In preparation for writing the forecasts, the transits, full moons, and eclipses for the time period covered during Order of the Phoenix were evaluated and judged for clues about how the charts react to activation. One might say that the "language" of the charts was learned during this preparatory analysis.
According to the Harry Potter Lexicon, the fifth book begins in July of 1995, and ends in late June of 1996, and the synopsis of events are time-data confirmed on the Lexicon in the day-by-day calendar for this book. A synopsis of this time period is presented here as a demonstration of how correlations and sweet spots were established in these charts as a foundation for forecasting. Harry's chart is the center of focus for most of the text.
Key:
T = Transiting, current location.
N = Natal, the place where it is located in Harry's birth chart.
Exact dates are given for full moons and eclipses.
Event–to–Planetary Transit Synopsis of Order of the Phoenix (1995-1996)
September-October. The school year begins with turbulence in established relationships. Harry is separated from adults important to him, lacks a source of mature counseling, and faces new restrictions. (Mercury T retrograde in the 7th house; Saturn T opposite Mercury T).
There are personal discomforts, he is on bad terms with his best friends, has outbursts of temper, and trouble with his dormitory roommates. He is not believed and treated like a liar. Hermione proposes a secret defense group with Harry as the teacher. (October 8 - Lunar Eclipse at 14 Aries; and October 24 – Total Solar Eclipse at 0 Scorpio). Harry discovers his attraction to Cho is a mutual interest (Venus T in Scorpio).
In the world outside of Hogwarts, the political climate is hostile, plagued with smoke and mirrors. Information is suppressed by authority figures like Minister Fudge as he tries to avoid and deny realities. Albus Dumbledore is undermined in his administration. There is sabotage from within the ministry, power games established through financial leverage by Lucius Malfoy. (Neptune T squares Pluto N).
Early November. Harry is reunited with his friends, and receives more support from them in his difficulties with authority figures. Sports victories, but gets banned from playing. (Jupiter T conjunct Neptune N square Saturn T in Pisces; aspects to Mercury N and Pluto N; Venus T and Mars T in Sagittarius). There are battles for control, and Harry's losses accelerate as Umbridge attacks on what Harry values most. (November 23 – Venus T conjunct Mars T forms a t-square with Venus N and Saturn N)
December. Problems with vivid dreams, interrupted sleep, disturbing messages, increasing anxiety in class work. (Dec 7 – Full Moon in Gemini square Jupiter N). Losses and restrictions increase; people Harry loves are endangered and attacked; feelings of tremendous guilt, confusion about whether feelings are his or another's (Saturn T t-square with Saturn N and Venus N). Problems lurking below the surface surge to the surface and manifest into reality (Jupiter T completes Grand Cross).
December 17-23: Attack on Mr. Weasley (Dec 18 - Mars T and Mercury T in Capricorn squares Mars/Pluto N). Harry experiences the attack through dream/vision of snake's vision. A swift journey is indicated, also a change of residence (Venus T and Pluto T aspect Ascendant). Harry feels tremendous guilt, as though the injury is his fault and isolates himself (New Moon on Dec 22 square Moon N).
January 1996. From Jan. 5 – Jan 12: more travel, change residence; separates from family setting to return to school (Full Moon on Jan 5 conjunct Mercury N; Mars, Uranus, and Mercury T all enter Aquarius). The attitude of peers at school starts to shift in his favor. The DA group continues activities, plans to undermine Umbridge (Jan 20 - Mercury T retrogrades; makes t-square with Mercury N and Pluto N). Harry is compelled to work with Professor Snape in occlumency lessons. This requires clear emotions, and he struggles with this as his emotions are strained with numerous confusions and difficulties. Continuing problems with headaches, dreams and interrupted sleep (Jan 3 - Jupiter enters Capricorn and squares Ascendant and Moon N for several weeks).
February. Harry struggles to understand Cho; his own emotions continue to be confused and turbulent. He does the interview with Rita Skeeter to resolve his frustrations and get information to the public; breaks with Cho. Authority figures become more aggressive and make direct, personal assaults on Harry, Griffindor, Dumbledore, and the teachers. (Mercury T enters Aquarius, Mars T and Sun enter Pisces; Saturn T repeats t-square with Venus N and Neptune N for the 3d time; Jupiter T square Jupiter N).
Late February. March issue of Quibbler released on Feb 23. Harry gets lots of attention, has a triumph, finds his own power and influence with the public, uses talents, but attracts danger at the same time (Venus T in Aries sextile Venus N and trine Neptune N; Pluto T trine Ascendant and Moon; Uranus T in Aquarius; Jupiter T and Mars T trine Jupiter N).
March. Harry is a hero to others, but has to work harder on his studies, with limited movements. He has hidden activities and concerns, secret classes, secret problems, authority problems, and restraints (Uranus T and Pluto both aspect his Ascendant). In late March, the attacks on his head-mind occur during occlumency classes; with more vivid dreams and headaches (March 24 - Mercury and Mars T both enter Aries, into his first house).
April. Harry becomes closer with his friends, intimate discussions as threats approach. Owls bring important messages; more dreams, sleep disturbed, headaches persist and get worse; loses appetite. Dumbledore leaves school. (April 4 – Total Lunar Eclipse at 14 Libra conjunct Mars/Pluto N and square Mercury N; April 17 – Solar Eclipse at 28 Aries square Midheaven axis; Venus T in Gemini; Saturn T enters Aries on April 7).
May. Situation at Hogwarts continues to deteriorate as Umbridge applies tyrannical control. Fred and George create assaults, fireworks, swamp, and quit school; schedules are disrupted; covert communications; intensive review of school material in preparation for OWLs. (Venus T retrogrades in Gemini; Mercury, Jupiter and Uranus T all retrograde; Saturn T conjunct Ascendant and Moon).
June. This is a month of misinformation, disinformation, frustrated communications and lack of information. Complete review of material to prepare for intense testing period (OWLs); Harry must perform at his highest level under great stress as headaches/dreams continue unabated. (Venus retrograde continues. June 1 – Full Moon at 11 Sagittarius square Jupiter N; Mercury and Mars enter Gemini and square Jupiter N; Jupiter T retrograde square Mars/Pluto N).
Late June. Harry has a direct confrontation with Death Eaters and Voldemort at the Ministry of Magic. Friends injured; Harry learns about prophecy. Sirius killed in confrontation, Harry feels responsible for his death, extremely angry and unresolved about this terrible loss as he returns to the Dursley residence. (Jupiter T square Mars/Pluto; Mars T conjunct Venus T both square Jupiter N; Saturn T opposes Mars N).
